It is required that all visitors to Xe Pian purchase an entrance permit. The entrance permit can be purchased directly at the entrance to Xe Pian on Road No. 18A in Pathoumphone District, Champasak Province. For directions click here.
Visitors are required to keep the permit with them at all times. If you lose your permit, you may be required to purchase another one. The permit is good for one entry for 7 days maximum. The cost of the permit is 30,000 Kip, which is approximately USD3.50. The fee must be paid in Kip, as the staff do not have other currencies available for change.
If you would like to leave Xe Pian NPA, after purchasing your entrance permit, and return within one day, you must register at the entrance permit checkpoint (the location where the permits are sold) and inform the staff of your plans. Otherwise, you will be required to purchase another permit upon returning to the protected area.
How Entrance Permit Funds Are Used
Fees collected from entrance permit sales are used directly to protect the biodiversity of Xe Pian NPA and to help improve the livelihoods of local people. The funds generated by the permit sales are managed by a committee to ensure that funds are used appropriately. The committee includes members from the Champasak Provincial Administration Office, Provincial Agriculture and Forestry Department, Provincial Tourism Department, Provincial Finance Department, Pathoumphone and Kong District Administration Offices, and the National Protected Area Office.
