Traditional Canoe Trip Into Xe Pian's Wetlands

Half Day
Glide into Xe Pian's serene aquatic landscape with one of Kiet Nongs skilled boatmen. This trip invites nature lovers, birdwatchers and photographers to journey deep into the heart of the spectacular bird-rich wetlands to enjoy abundant birdlife, traditional fishermen, domestic buffalo and possibly grazing elephants.

Join your guide in a two person canoe or rent a second boat to share the experience with a friend.

The boat will take you across the expansive wetlands to Don Lai and Don Kwang islands, which are typical locations for bird watching. There is a bird watching tower at Don Kwang where you can relax and enjoy great views of the wetland.

What to Bring
Sunscreen, hat, mosquito spray, drinking water, waterproof bag to protect your valuables, wear clothes and sandals comfortable for waling in calf high water and mud

How This Tour Benefits the Village
There are twenty families involved in the boat association. Each family takes a turn in providing boat services to tourists in order to share the work and benefits fairly. The money that you pay goes directly to the boatman, with a small portion going back to the boat association fund to manage the service.

Booking
You can simply arrive in the village and book your canoe trip at the village information centre without advance reservation. You can book in advance through local tour companies or the Kingfisher Ecolodge.
